moby runs on a dark screen. Everything that isn't the task recedes into black, and one green gradient — the same green as the wordmark — marks where to look and what to do next.

Highlights

Dark by default
Black isn't a theme option here — it's the ground. Everything that isn't the current task steps back into it.
One green signal
A single gradient green does the pointing: state, progress, and the next action all speak in one color.
A mark that holds the rules
The wordmark's ruled lines and macron set the grid the screens inherit — type sits on the same lines everywhere.

moby is a mobile app. I took on its product design, starting from the default state of the screen itself.

Starting from black

This isn't a dark theme laid over a light one — the design starts at black. Anything that isn't the task at hand steps back into the ground, so only one thing is left and nobody has to decide where to look.

Saying it in one green

A single green gradient does all the pointing. State, progress, and the next action all speak in that one color. Instead of adding colors, I gave one color a grammar — so the reading stays the same as screens multiply.

Lines the mark set

The rules above and below the wordmark, and the macron over the y, aren't ornament — they're the rule set. Those lines became the screen grid, so type sits on the same lines everywhere.

Not more colors. More that one color can say.
